We don’t know a whole ‘lotta grandmas who have flown in Black Hawk Helicopters over the most dangerous parts of Iraq. None who have flown via bungee with Cirque de Soliel.  Nor a grandma who has a Grammy Award winning son-in-law (Song of the Year, for Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now).  Oh, WAIT…. we do know one. One who has done all that and more (wait ‘til you hear the story!). Meet our most loving and giving friend, Gail Lynne Goodwin.

We interview nothing short of a LOT of amazing women in business.  Each of them show their own unique qualities (we call them rock star qualities), but the most successful ones have one thing in common.  They have made mistakes.  They also learned from those mistakes and later leveraged those mistakes to know “what not to do.”

Its called Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).  There is no cure for ROP, as the retina and often the optic nerve are permanently scarred.  Even after multiple surgeries, painful childhood eye drops, and countless doctor visits, Andrea’s eyes remain blind today. She goes about her daily life with giant print on her computer screens.  Her nose literally must touch the paper when she reads in order to make the words out. She cannot control her floating eye. She cannot drive.

Andrea lost her sight as a baby, but she never lost her vision.  This is why she is one of my biggest inspirations.  Her vision to be a rock star has been more than realized.

Despite her lack of eyesight, Andrea overcame unbelievable obstacles even as a young child.

At seven years old, rock star Andrea decided she would participate with me in what should be known as the last sport a blind kid should ever attempt.  Competitive baton twirling.  That’s right, a sport with a spinning metal projectile flying directly in the path of your teeth, and the blind kid said, “Why not?”
