As a follow up to our last post, “How to Beat Adversity, Obstacles, and Other Crisis In Your Life,” we wanted to share with you the most important component on that list. The umbrella over it all, for us. We want to share it with you not to shove it down your throat or be obscene about it, but because it is who we are at the core and we always want to be transparent about that. Emphasis on always.
Introducing our F-word. We have a few of them, but not the one you think. Failure is one of our favorites, because we have such a gratitude for the opportunity to learn from them. But today, our F-word is the most important life skill we have in overcoming our obstacles, and you overcoming yours. Faith.
Understand we are Suuuthern girls. Southern Baptist girls, that is. We promise not the throw a Bible at you, but we do believe in it in an un-ashamed, out-loud kinda’ way. With that, we know “religion” to be a highly personal thing, and for some of us, its…well, weird or over the top.  We get that.

But for us, its different anyway. For us, its not about a set of rules from a higher power, or a list of do-goods, or a Sunday appointment to get dressed up and be seen by the Joneses. For us, its about a relationship with who we see as our God, and the choice we GET to make everyday to be not “all that we can be,” but instead, all that He intended us to be. That’s why we chose the word “life skill” earlier in this post… because it is an action we take. Its not a faith that is passive, and its certainly not a faith that is untested. It is a faith that we have to work on and be in, everyday, in order to overcome what seems so absurdly impossible. All the while, we seek with intention how these crisis are to shape us. And trust us, they will shape you.

So whoever your higher power is, or whatever it is you look to when you are pondering the meaning of life, be actively present in that relationship. Be actively present in all that you do, regardless of the circumstances around you.  The skills we spoke about earlier are wonderful when you feel backed into a corner, flat on your back, broke, and starving.  But they all fall under this umbrella.  Without relational Faith, forget those tips.  They are useless.  So however you chose to shape it, or whatever you chose to call it, remember this above all else:  Have Faith.
